A whole 8 years after his last album "Racine carée"( who remembers that time?), Stromae has come to deliver a strong comeback. He really did!
Stromae in this album is playing the critic on most of social issues. This story-telling pop album is all intimacy, humor, fun, smoothness, rhythm and the so obvious drama.
But guys, the lyrics and groove( banangeee fire). You will even forget he's talking about sad issues. The opener Invaincu is a cancer fighter's song. Stromae raps about a person defeating the "putain de maladie" that took his relatives but refuses to give-in. The reflective phrase is" tant qu'j'suis en vie, je suis invaincu".
He smoothly shifts to Santé, a beautiful tribute to all workers who don't get the appreciation they deserve, who are underpaid, etc. We celebrate and raise a glass for them.
Solassitude is by far like my second favorite( I'm taking sides ehhh!)."Le célibat me fait souffrir de solitude, la vie de couple me fait souffrir de lassitude". You are single, it's lonely. you have umu chou it's wearing you off. We can all relate, what shall we do? This Nicolas's tale is a proof of Stromae strength in story writing.
In Fils de joie, this man is spitting facts. They will call you a whore and still ask for your service. Stromae takes the role of the sex worker's son who fights for her mom's dignity amidst the disrespect of clients, policemen, etc. My favorite line is the man who says "En plus, j'suis surement son meilleur client." The hypocrisy!
L'enfer. Most people's enfer these days is mental health. He circles around the guilt that comes around suicidal thoughts and that we mostly don't know how to react or seek help.
C'est que du bonheur, in this humorous song full of irony, Stromae arguments that as much as people will enjoy parenthood, it always comes with its own heavy bags ( les couches et les odeurs, les vomits et les cacas), women experiencing body changes etc, the pressure is getting worser.
Pas vraiment. The tea here is about couples who don't fear posting their love lives. And some who break it off. It's by far my favorite because being honest I too have judged these social media couples that always look perfect but who hasn't ? Raise your hand. Plus sorry to this man that was gonna propose but the girl broke off their relationship just when he was kneeling down. This song is really a ride!
Riez, is a man's dream of what he predicts his future to be. With a nice big house, many children and a lot more dreams that someone else may think is too unrealistic. He's like "riez, riez seulement" that translates to "Laugh, just laugh."
Mon amour is about a prick who can't stop cheating on his girlfriend and blames it on her saying she loves assholes! The girl leaves him for another and he has the audacity to ask how many times they do it per month or if he has a bigger one!
Déclaration, is a tribute to women and centers around the struggles that come with being a woman and living in a misogynistic society. And how change in misogynistic societies is gonna take long just because it profits men. The voice though! Exquisite
Closing off, Mauvaise journée et Bonne journée. The common denominator in these two is poop. We all know that a bad pooping equals directly a moody depressing day and good poop will send you on a La La Land and giving 20% tips to services. I guess this explains nicely these 2 songs.
This album ain't as catchy as Racine carée but it really is an adventurous album
Here to cheer you up my girl🫶🏾. Keep on doing what you’re doing sha. We’re here keeping up with LAURETTE’ S!!
